Ende Mai 1992 wurde in Pettenbach, im oberösterreichischen Almtal, das Schrift- und Heimatmuseum Bartlhaus eröffnet und seiner Bestimmung übergeben.
Als erste Gemeinde Österreichs besitzt Pettenbach ein Museum, das in erster Linie der Schriftkunst und dem Exlibris gewidmet ist. Ein eigener Förderverein hat diese kulturelle Besonderheit mit Unterstützung aus öffentlichen und privaten Mitteln geschaffen. Es ist beabsichtigt, in diesem Museum Werke in- und ausländischer Schrift- und Exlibriskünstler zu vereinen, sie in persönlichen Wechselausstellungen zu präsentieren, um diese spezielle Kunstform einem größeren Interessentenkreis nahezubringen.
At the end of May 1992 the "Schrift- und Heimatmuseum Bartlhaus" (Bartlhaus Calligraphy and Local Heritage Museum) was officially opened in Pettenbach, in the Upper Austrian Alm valley.
Pettenbach is the first municipality in Austria to boast a museum that deals primarily with calligraphy and bookplate art. A dedicated promotional society created this cultural attraction with support from public and private funds. The intention is to use the museum to bring together works from domestic and foreign calligraphy and bookplate artists and open up this special art form to a wider audience by exhibiting them in temporary personal exhibitions..
The aim of the founders, Leopold Feichtinger, Prof. Friedrich Neugebauer and Dr. Ottmar Premstaller, was to create awareness of calligraphy and thus encourage its preservation.
